As Head Coach Tina Tamm enters her 26th season in charge of the Becker Bulldog swimming and diving team, her team has set a goal to take another step towards the upward evolution of the program.
“I have the girls fill out a goal sheet at the beginning of the season which has them list personal and team goals,” Tamm said. “One team goal that the majority of them listed was to get 2nd place at Sections . . . it is possible and more attainable since they want it as a group.”
A year ago, the Bulldogs took third in Sections, their highest finish ever. Now, Tamm returns a solid group of returning letter winners who are focusing on the team’s best finish ever.
“Over half of our team is returning letter winners who all have their different skills and place on the team,” Tamm said. “With 12 different events, they all play a key role somewhere on the team.”
Joining Tamm on the coaching staff is her daughter Avery, in her 6th season, as well as Sarah and Lauren Woelfel, who will be in their first season co-coaching the diving events.
Alanah Awalt, Laila Cook, Karli Kirk and Kailey McGowan will serve as captains of the team, and will be counted on to set the tone for the Bulldogs.
Their experience and leadership, as well as the depth in the pool and diving well, have Tamm optimistic about the potential of this year’s squad.
“It is going to be a great season, as we have a great core group of girls and our newest additions (7th grade) are working their way right with the others,” Tamm said. “With our goal being a 2nd place finish at Sections, we need to focus, work hard and remember that each individual race combines with every other race to reach that goal. If we all work together, the goal can be achieved.”
