The Becker Bulldog swimming and diving team recently placed second at the Section 5A True Team meet. The runner-up finish was is the highest in program history.
“We had a great day at the true team meet on Saturday, as there were a lot of really good races and a lot of races that came down to the finish,” Coach Tina Tamm said. “The girls made goals at the beginning of the season and one of them was to place second at True Team. They wanted to accomplish that goal and did what they had to do to get it done.”
For the True Team meet, the top eight finishers in each event receive medals.
“We sent a lot of girls to the podium,” Tamm added. “We had at least one athlete on the podium in every event.”
Podium appearances included: 200 Medley Relay, second place (Laila Cook, Izza Mork, Grace Mork, Mia Suelter) and seventh place (Harper Kellogg, Kandell Hagen, Eiley Kaehler, Clara Pratt);
200 Freestyle: first (Grace Mork) and fifth (Mia Suelter); 200 Individual Medley: second (Izza Mork) and sixth (Kandell Hagen); 50 Freestyle: seventh (Alyssa Cowley); Diving: third( Maggie Graning) fifth (Karli Kirk) sixth (Lillian Bonsante) and seventh (Brielle Kuschel); 100 butterfly: seventh (Laila Cook) and eighth (Myka Maksimenko); 100 freestyle: fifth (Kandell Hagen); 500 free: first (Grace Mork) third (Mia Suelter) eighth (Harper Kellogg); 200 free relay: third (Izza Mork, Alysaa Cowley, Laila Cook, Grace Mork); 100 backstroke: fifth (Laila Cook); 100 breaststroke: first (Izza Mork); 400 free relay: fourth (Alyssa Cowley, Myka Maksimenko, Mia Suelter, Kandell Hagen).
In addition to the podium places, Tamm also reported several athletes with qualifying times for Sections, including Kailey McGowan in the 200 free, Cook in the 100 butterfly, Astrid Faul in the 500 free and Elle Aho in the 100 backstroke.
“We now have 21 athletes qualified for the Section meet,” Tamm added.
