Big Lake Tropical Twist
The Bulldog girls gymnastics team took second at Big Lake’s annual Tropical Twist Invitational last Saturday.

“We would have liked to win this meet,” said Head Coach Jen Harmoning. “But Big Lake had a great day and they deserved the win.”

Harmoning pointed out her team just made too many mistakes.

“We also took several risks because we competed several new skills that the girls have just learned over holiday break,” she said.  “It's very different to compete a new skill in a meet compared to during practices, so we knew that we might have some more mistakes than usual.  We had some mistakes on things we shouldn't have, though, as well.  I hope we can work hard during our upcoming practices to make all our skills more consistent.”

Harmoning said although her injured athletes are out of casts and wraps and look to be completely mended, she did risk bringing any of them back too soon for the meet at Big Lake.

“We are hopeful that they are getting closer and closer to being able to get back out on the floor,” she said.

The Bulldogs also did not have Hannah Schmidt competing Saturday so that she could rest a strained back muscle.

Mallary Dick from Big Lake, a top-notch gymnast who is looking to battle for the state all-around title come February, won every event at the meet.
