Bulldog girls topple RR, 65-57

The Becker girls basketball team traveled to Duluth East last Saturday and came away with a nice 65-57 win over state-ranked Rock Ridge, which is a consolidation of Eveleth, Gilbert and Virginia, MN.

“It was a great overall team win against a ranked team,” Coach Dan Baird said.

Becker led 37-32 at the half, as the Changamire sisters, Adele and Andie, each tallied 10 points going into the break.

Adele did her damage from downtown, hitting a pair of three’s, while Andie did her work inside, scoring three field goals and shooting six free throws in the half.  Becker scored 15 points from the free throw line in the game, while Rock Ridge scored just six.

Andie finished with 18 points in the game, while Adele had 17.  Tess Brown added a third Bulldog in double figures with 10 points, while Lauren Croal had nine.  Josie Reckelberg added five, and Ady Petty and Eilidh Mrnak each scored a three pointer in the opening half to finish with three points.

Thunder

Tuesday night, Becker was back in Mississippi 8 Conference action and came away with a 68-36 win over the Zimmerman Thunder.

It was one of the Bulldogs’ best defensive efforts of the season, as they raced to a 40-19 halftime lead.

Andie Changamire had a very aggressive first half, as she went four-for-five from the free throw line and scored 14 points.  She finished the game with 27 points, hitting 11 of 13 free throws.

Adele Changamire was hot from downtown, as she hit four shots from beyond the arc en route to a 17 point performance. Eilidh Mrnak continued her recent strong play, hitting three long rangers and netting 11 points for the Bulldogs.

Becker outscored the Thunder 17-6 at the free throw line, as the Bulldogs committed just 11 personal fouls in the game.
