The Becker girls track team competed in the Section 5AA True Team meet last Tuesday and put forth an excellent effort in qualifying for the State True Team Meet. The True Team format dictates that each squad can enter two competitors in each event and every athlete scores points depending on their place finish.
Section champions qualify for the State True Team Meet, and then the next four teams in each section (eight sections in Minnesota) are put into a Wild Card paper meet, to ensure that the top teams all qualify for state.
Becker was the highest scoring team of the Wild Card spots, earning the Bulldogs a berth in the state meet for the first time since the 1990’s.
“The girls performed really well and we had a lot of Personal Record performances,” Coach Trish Reimer Kealy said. “We also are excited to attain three girls school records at this meet.”
Kailey Thompson broke her own school record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.26 to finish first, while the 4x100 team of Josie Reckelberg, Kailey Thompson, Kali Schendzielos, and Salayna Allen broke the school record with a time of 50.54 to claim the top spot. Allen also broke the 200 meter school record with a time of 26.36, with the old record standing since 1995.
Allen was fourth in the 100, while Adele Changamire took fifth in the 800.
The 4x400 relay was third with a time of 4:10.75 and team members included: Kaylyn Rickard, Adele Changamire, Katelyn Brower and Andie Changamire. The 4x800 relay team of Brower, Savannah Cunningham, Alyssa Brower and Andie Changamire took second place.
In the shot put, Ella Tschida was second overall with a throw of 35’9.5”, a personal record, while she took fourth in discus.
Bella Kuschel was fifth in the high jump, while Sophia Otto took third in the pole vault.
Josie Reckelberg, Andie Changamire, Kaylyn Rickard, Katelyn Brower, Savannah Cunningham, Laney Hodel, Kali Schendzielos, Eilidh Mrnak, and Maggie Graning all posted personal records in events for the Bulldogs.
“The kids all competed really well and showed grit and determination,” Reimer-Kealy said. “I’m so proud of all their efforts and excited for what they can do!”
