Once again, the Becker girls basketball team is playing top competition, and in their most recent stretch they picked up three wins in four games.
Becker took on behemoth Minnetonka last weekend and fell 75-62 against a Class AAAA team, the Skippers, that moved to 15-1 on the season with the win and showed why they are the top ranked team in the state.
“This game was competitive throughout,” Said Coach Dan Baird. “The game was very similar stat wise, as both teams had 30 rebounds and 13 turnovers.”
The Skippers were able to hit a few more shots down the stretch to pull off the win.
For Becker, Adele Changamire was stellar throughout, proving that no stage is too big for the talented sophomore.
“She was going downhill and getting to the basket against some of the best guards in the state,” Baird said.
She finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists to lead Becker, while sister Andie Changamire had 15 points and six rebounds.
Vikings
The Bulldogs set a school record the week prior in a 107-19 win over North Branch.
Becker shot 68% and scored 79 points in the first half, as the starters garnered fewer minutes in the game than the reserves.
Ten different Bulldogs scored in the game, led by Andie Changamire’s 24 points.
“Alyse Denne scored 14 points to go with her great defensive performance, snagging three steals to go with three deflections,” Baird added.
B-Jackets
Last Tuesday, Becker knocked off M8 foe Cambridge-Isanti, 91-27.
The win gave Becker a 4-1 M8 Conference record and was highlighted by some amazing shooting from Adele Changamire.
She scored 23 points on a perfect nine-for-nine performance from the field. Andie Changamire added 20 points, while Denne chipped in 13 points, two steals and six deflections.
Baird also sang the praises of his rebounders, as Becker held a 39-25 advantage on the boards, and also won the turnover battle, 11-20.
Hornets
Last Friday, Baird’s charges were again on point en route to a 70-44 win over Big Lake in the Hwy. 10 Border Battle.
“The difference in this contest was the turnover battle and points in the paint,” Baird said. “We committed only 6 turnovers compared to 23 for Big Lake, and we outscored them in the paint, 58 to 14.”
Adele Changamire had 25 points for Becker, while Andie chipped in 23.
“Andie did a great job attacking, not settling for 3’s, and did so without committing any turnovers,” Baird noted.
With the win, Becker moved to 7-4 on the season, including 5-1 in the M8 Conference.
