The Mississipi 8 Conference wins continued to pile up for the Becker girls basketball team last Friday, as the Bulldogs took a 66-61 win on the road over the Princeton Tigers.
Becker led 34-21 at halftime and then held off the Tigers’ late game rally to seal the victory.
“Our girls fought through adversity as we gave up the lead, but they kept their composure and made plays down the stretch,” Head Coach Dan Baird said. “Adele Changamire hit two clutch foul shots for us at the end.”
Andie Changamire was stellar in the opening half, scoring 14 points as the Bulldogs were the aggressors early. Four different Bulldogs hit three-point shots in the opening half to help build the lead.
After halftime, the Tigers found their offense, scoring 38 points but the Bulldogs had enough answers as Adele Changamire hit a pair of three’s en route to 14 points in the second half. Andie finished the night with 24 points, while Adele poured in 19 (eight rebounds) as the sister-duo continues to show off their offensive talents.
Tess Brown added nine points and 10 rebounds, while Lauren Croal added eight points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs, who improved to 4-1 in conference play.
Vs. Blue Jackets
Tuesday night, Becker was again on the road as they faced off with the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets and secured the 57-45 win.
Becker led 41-26 at halftime, but when the offense turned cold, it was up to the defenders to make it happen.
The Bulldogs’ defensive effort was excellent, as their matchup zone pushed the Bluejackets against an expiring shot clock numerous times to start the second half. Cambridge was able to chip away at the lead, and were within 42-39 with eight minutes left in the second half when Baird called a timeout.
The coach drew up a set play for Andie Changamire, as she hit a big three pointer to start the Bulldog run, and Becker was off to the races, taking a 10 point lead over the next three minutes.
“Adele hit two huge threes down the stretch and Tess Brown did well on the boards for us,” Baird said.
Scoring: Adele Changamire 19, Andie Changamire 15, Eilidh Mrnak eight, Tess Brown eight, Josie Reckelberg five, Juliana Stach two.
