The Becker girls track and field team took third place last week at the M8 Conference meet.

“We had a very competitive meet on the one nice day of the week,” Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy said.

Chisago Lakes won the meet with 129, while Becker scored 102.

“Our athletes earned the most All Conference awards of any team with 10 girls earning the award and we had eight more events with honorable mention,” Reimer-Kealy added.

All-Conference honors are awarded to places 1-4 in individual events and the top two relays, while Honorable Mention goes to places 5-8 in individual events.

The 4x800 relay was first and Becker’s entry ran what their coach called a “smart and patient race.”

Katelyn Brower started things off, followed by Adele Changamire, Sydnee Bull and Andie Changamire. The group ran away with the win in a time of 9:52.29, with their closest competition over 12 seconds behind.

“This is the first time this season we have gone under 10 minutes,” Reimer-Kealy said.

Kailey Thompson continued her domination of the 100 hurdles by winning the race in 15.62, while Kali Schendzielos and Raelee Lyon both earned All-Conference awards as well.

Salayna Allen took eighth in the 100, but she suffered an injury which took her out of the 200 later in the meet.

In the 1600, Sydnee Bull placed seventh with a PR time of 5:36.53.  Savannah Cunningham placed third in the 3200 with a time of 12:14.74 and Laney Hodel was seventh with a PR of 12.42.90.

In the 400, Andie Changamire ran a PR time of 60.7 to take second place, while in the 800, Adele Changamaire ran for second in a personal best time of 2:23.12. Brower finished seventh (2:31.40).

Josie Reckelberg earned All-Conference in the 200 placing third (26.76) and she placed fourth in the long jump (16’ ).   In other field events, Bella Kuschel earned All-Conference in the high jump,  and Maggie Graning was sixth. Sophia Otto then placed eighth in the pole vault (9’), and Ella Tschida earned all conference in both the shot put (first place) and the discus (fourth place).

The 4x100 team of Reckelberg, Kailey Thompson, Schendzielos and Allen took third (51.47) .

The 4x400 team finished out the running events and placed a strong second: Brower, Adele Changamire, Kaylyn Rickard, and Andie Changamire.

“Our kids competed well and we hope this sets us up for a great competition next week in our section 5AA meet,” Reimer-Kealy concluded.
