Bulldog girls 1-1 at Breakdown GCC

The Becker girls basketball team split a pair of games at last weekend’s Breakdown Granite City Classic, losing to Byron 70-48 on opening night before picking up a 68-52 win over Sartell the next day.

In the win over the Sabres, the Bulldogs enjoyed a 10 rebound advantage on the boards and led 36-27 at halftime to avenge last season’s loss.

“We lost to Sartell last year down the stretch so it was nice to get them this time around,” Coach Dan Baird said.  “Our turnovers were down (from the previous day) so we had a nice, pretty clean game.”

Juliana Stach had her best game as a Bulldog, scoring 20 points, and adding 10 rebounds, six assists, and five steals for a double double performance.

“She was six-for-eight from the three-point line and played incredible defense,” Baird added.

Andie Changamire had 14 points and nine rebounds to continue her fine season, while Baird credited Adele Changamire for her excellent defensive game, holding Sabre standout Kennedy Lewis  to just 13 points.

Additional Becker stats: Adele Changamire 11 points, six rebounds; Ady Petty five assists; Alyse Denne five points; Rowan Hausmann five points; Tess Brown 13 points, five rebounds.

Byron

In the opening round loss to #9 state-ranked Byron, the Bulldogs committed too many turnovers (26) to keep the game close.

“We committed 26 turnovers which led to 33 points off turnovers for Byron, whereas we only accumulated 10 points off turnovers,” Baird said.  “That was really the difference in the game.  We did a poor job at breaking their press all night.”

Adele Changamire led Becker with 13 points, while Andie Changamire had 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs will be back in action this week, hosting Zimmerman on Tuesday and North Branch on Friday.
