Bulldog boys track team downs Tigers

Tuesday after school, the Becker Bulldog boys track team played host to a conference dual meet against the Princeton Tigers and came away with a 44-35 victory.

Because of inclement weather, the meet was moved from the track to the field house, meaning that several events were canceled.

“It was a fun meet to have some competition finally and see some of our younger athletes compete and do well,” Head Coach Paul Schmidt said.  “Our veteran runners looked strong and are continuing to get into track form.”

There were a number of top performers in the running events for the Bulldogs. In the 4x800 relay, the team consisting of Lucas Karel, Tyson Ricker, Alex Kinney, and Mason Becker took first place with a time of 9:24.48.

In the 55 Meter Dash, Cade Stommes finished second (7.31) and Chris Stich finished 3rd (7.32).

In another relay event, the 4x200 team of Johnothan Remker, Brody Stommes, Vincent Martin, and Ben Howe came from behind to win the event with a time of 1:56.1.

Next up was the 1600 meter run and Tyson Ricker blew the field away with a 4:49.12 time and Karel took 3rd with a time of 5:15.32.

Becker’s 4x100 team of Carter Reckelberg, Owen Angell, Nick Christensen, and Stich took 1st place with a time of 56.93.

In the 400 dash, Becker finished 2nd and 3rd with Carter Leither and Cade Stommes getting times of 56.73 and 57.46, respectively.

The boys 800 meter run saw Mason Becker score some points for the Bulldogs with a time of 2:25 and a 3rd place finish.

In the 200 dash, Reckelberg took 2nd place (25.83) and Stich finished 3rd (26.35).

In the final running event, the 4x400 team of Cade Stommes, Ricker, Angell and Leither took first with a time of 3:54.41.

On the field event side, Owen Angel took first in the long jump with a leap of 17’ 9.5”, while close behind in second was Reckelberg (17’ 8”) and Leither( 3rd - 16’ 9.5”).  

Cade Stommes won the triple jump competition with a leap of 35’ 2.5” and Reckelberg took second (34’ 3”).

Becker was scheduled to travel to Monticello on Thursday for another meet, before heading to St. Francis this Tuesday.
