Tuesday night, the Becker boys track team participate in a Quad meet held in Princeton and finished in third place with 43 points. Cambridge-Isanti ran away with the win at the meet with 125 points, while Big Lake finished second with 81 team points. Princeton finished fourth with 21 points.
It was again the Bulldogs’ distance runners who provided the big boost to the team, according to Coach Paul Schmidt.
“The distance runners for Becker took the spotlight,” Schmidt said.
Lucas Karel won the 1600 with a personal best time of 4:50, while he also placed 4th in the 3200 with a personal record time of 10:52.42.
Tyson Ricker won the 3200 — running a personal best time by over 16 seconds — he finished the race in 10:02.83.
“Tyson also ran the first leg of our 4x800 relay team along with Cade Stommes, Alex Kinney, and Mason Becker and they finished second with a season best time of 9:12.72,” Schmidt said.
Next up, the boys 4x200 relay team of Carter Reckelberg, Luke MacDonald, Carter Liether, and Ben Howe ran a season best time of 1:42.34.
The 4x400 team of Cade Stommes, Owen Angell, Leither, and MacDonald ran their best time of the season with a 3:47.22 which was good for second place.
Other top performances for the Bulldogs came from Owen Angell, who placed 2nd in the 300 Intermediate Hurdles with a personal record time of 44.8. He also placed 2nd in the pole vault with a vault of 11 feet.
Carter Leither ran a personal best time of 44.78 in the 400 which earned him a second place finish and Noah Bloch also ran his top time of the year in the 400 with a 61.61 time.
The Becker Boys team is back in action this week on Tuesday and will again be in Princeton where it will compete in a True Team Qualifier Meet. The true team competition will be a virtual event this year that will use times from this meet and others like it from around the state to crown a true team champion.
