Bulldog boys fall to Saints

Last Thursday, the Becker Bulldog boys basketball team suffered from a cold shooting night on the road as they fell to the St. Francis Saints, 56-45.

The Saints are currently leading the Mississippi 8 Conference with an 11-2 record and Becker’s shooting troubles proved to be too much to overcome in the road loss.

The Bulldogs shot just 27% from two-point range and the long ball was even worse, as the team connected on just two-of-23 attempts from beyond the arc.

Becker fell behind 17-28 at halftime, but came out and played well in the second stanza, matching the Saints with 28 points.

Defensively, the Bulldogs held St. Francis to 11 points less than their season scoring average of 67 points, but the Saints held the advantage 26-6 in transition points in the game.

Eric Seavert again led the Bulldog offensive effort with 13 points, while Brady Paumen joined him in double figures with 11.

Other scoring included Alex Weiss (3), Nick Berglund (1), Nick Knute (7), Hayden Harmoning (6), and Landen Goebel (4).

Becker also won the turnover battle, 18-13, but it wasn’t enough to cover up the team’s offensive woes.

With the loss, Becker sits at 7-6 in the conference, good enough for fourth place, and 9-7 overall.

They were set to host Big Lake Thursday night and then Rocori in a Saturday (today) afternoon matinee to finish out the regular season.

Details from both games will be available in next week’s Patriot.

The first round of sections will be played Friday, March 19, while the semi-finals will be played March 23.  The finals will be held March 26 and all games will be played at the high seed.
