Becker Bulldog boys basketball head coach Corey Nuest has been busy this fall preparing coaches and holding clinics for youth basketball teams.
Nuest says there has also been plenty of time to support the basketball players in their fall sports and activities, while still taking the first steps in installing the program’s core values and up-tempo style of offense.
Nuest was able to finalize his high school coaching staff, as Jesse Peterson will fill the role of defensive coordinator, while the head JV A team coach will be Josh Doss. Jon Crowley returns as the JV B coach and Robert Hoekstra will fill the C team coaching duties.
“The mission of our staff is to relentlessly pursue building better men, better players, and to have a positive impact on those who cross our paths,” Nuest says.
He also credits the youth basketball program, led by Ryan Goodman, and all of the other volunteers for laying a solid foundation for the varsity program.
To foster that communication, Nuest and the staff have been meeting with youth coaches and holding practices and a clinic for 5th through 8th grade boys so they can begin to learn the new system.
“We have also been teaching our core values to help with not only athletic success, but more importantly leadership qualities to become better men,” adds Nuest.
Nuest says he has enjoyed immensely the chance to get to know the youth coaches and the 72 boys out for the sports in grades 5 through 8.
“I am super excited for the future and can’t wait to watch them compete this winter and continue to grow as people and players,” Nuest adds. “There have also been a group of boys that have started coming to open gym in the mornings to work on skills and also the weight room with coach Josh Otto. Commitment is one of our core values and it is always more fun to do it along side your buddies.
