The Becker Bulldog boys track and field team finished runners-up in the State Class AA true team meet last Saturday in Eden Prairie.
Coach Paul Schmidt and his charges scored an impressive 502.5 points, but finished just behind Stewartville who claimed the title.
“I was super proud of the guys and how they competed and performed,” Schmidt said after the meet. “We knew what we had to do and went out and did it. Stewartville was just a bit too much for us in the end.”
The Bulldogs again were led by seniors Carter Reckelberg and Owen Angell.
Reckelberg won the 100, 200, long jump and was second in the triple jump, capping off an incredible day.
Angell won the pole vault, the 110 hurdles, and was third in the 300 hurdles for an amazing trifecta of individual events. To cap it off, Angell anchored the 4x200 team that took second place along with teammates Dalton Weisz, Isiah Boyer, and Tristan Kowalkowski.
Boyer finished fourth in the 400 and Tanner Felton finished fifth in the vent.
They then both teamed up along with Brandt Hemmelgarn and Evan Hubbard to place fifth in the 4x400 relay. Felton, Hubbard, Hemmelgarn, and Alex Swanson then finished fourth in the 4x800 relay.
Another top individual performance went to Tarver Schendzielos, who finished second in the 200, fourth in the 100, seventh in the long jump, and was part of the fourth place 4x100 relay team along with Mitchell Soltau, Weisz and Kowalkowski.
In the distance events, Swanson finished sixth in the in the 3200, and Parker Spindler was ninth in the 1600. Hemmelgarn and Hubbard finished 15th and 16th in the 800.
Zach Halvorson and Saul Kreft anchored the field events and went 16th and 18th in the shot put, while Kreft was 15th in the discus and Halvorson placed 21st.
“This was a great experience for our boys and great competition heading into our conference and section meets coming up,” Schmidt said of the state true team tournament performance.
