Bulldog bats mostly silent, going 1-3 against formidible foes

The Becker Bulldog baseball team went 1-3 in the past week, as the team received great pitching but struggled at the plate.

Vs. Magic

Last Thursday, the team fell 2-0 to Monticello in the annual Strike Out Cancer game.

Gerad Hanle was a beast on the mound, striking out 10 Magic batters and scattering just four hits in his six innings of work on the mound.

The Bulldogs, however, managed just one hit - a leadoff bunt single from Isaac Guck.

Vs. Thunder

Friday night, Becker was back in the win column with a 5-3 victory over a much improved Zimmerman squad.

Austin Rimmer started on the mound, throwing three innings before Hunter Pietrowski came on in relief and pitched two innings of shutout baseball to get the win.  Jack Fischer picked up the save on the bump, going the final two innings.

Pietrowski and Rimmer each had two hits to pace the Bulldog offense.

Vs. Wildcats

Monday evening, Becker lost to Chisago Lakes, 10-8 in a wide-open affair.  The Wildcats had 10 hits in the game to Becker’s six, while both teams committed three errors apiece.

Ethan Cantin started on the mound for Becker and worked three innings, followed by Cayden Denny and Isaac Guck getting six outs each.

Isaac Daluge had a pair of hits for Becker, while Riley Girard drove in three runs.

Vs. Saints

Tuesday night, Becker wasted a stellar pitching performance from Pietrowski in a 3-2, walk-off loss to St. Francis.  The sophomore right-hander worked into the seventh inning before hitting the pitch count max and he was spot-on the entire game, throwing 70% strikes.  He worked 6.1 innings, scattering just five hits and striking out six batters.  Girard relieved next and suffered the tough-luck loss on the mound.

Becker managed just three hits in the game, while the Saints had just five of their own.
