Rainouts, an extra inning game and a pair of losses highlighted the Becker baseball team’s recent recap.
Vs. SRR
Last Wednesday, the Bulldogs fell to Sauk Rapids-Rice by a score of 8-6 in 10 innings.
Becker had taken the early lead with four runs in the bottom of the third inning, only to see the Storm storm back with three in the top of the fifth and one in the sixth to tie it up at four apiece.
Both teams posted a pair of runs in the eighth inning before the Storm won it with two in the top of the 10th.
Becker collected 12 hits in the game, including four from Hunter Pietrowski and two apiece from Gerad Hanle and Isaac Guck. Becker also struck out just four times in 41 at-bats, but they were one clutch hit away from winning the game in regulation on two different occasions. The Bulldogs were demons on the base paths, stealing seven total bases.
Hanle started on the mound and was fantastic, picking up 10 strikeouts in his seven innings of work and throwing strikes, as he didn’t walk a batter.
Jack Fischer came on in relief and went three innings, but suffered the loss.
Vs. Princeton
Thursday, the team was ambushed by Princeton, as the Tigers posted 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 22-2 win.
Becker’s defense was a mess, as the Bulldogs committed eight errors in the game and the Tigers collected 17 hits against three different Bulldog pitchers. Cayden Denne was a bright spot on the mound, as the right-hander went the final 2.1 innings and yielded just two runs, both unearned.
Becker had five hits total, and struck out just three times in the game, but couldn’t overcome the fast Tiger start.
Rainouts
Last Friday, the Dogs were rained out of a trip to Totino-Grace (rescheduled for Thursday of this week) and Tuesday, the Willmar contest was canceled because of rain and a lack of make-up dates with the playoffs looming.
