Coach Paul Schmidt and the Becker boys track team finished up the regular season this week and has set their sights on the Mississippi 8 Conference meet to be held Wednesday in North Branch.
The team’s final regular season meet was Tuesday in Big Lake, where they participated in a quad meet against some of the top teams in the conference.
“We faced off against the top three teams of the conference in this meet and fared well in some of the individual events,” Schmidt said.
As a team, Becker (35.5) finished fourth with Cambridge (103.5) on top, Monticello (74.5) in second place and Big Lake (64.5) in third place.
As has been the case for most of the season, Becker’s Tyson Ricker set the pace and proved he may be the guy to beat in the 1600 and the 3200, as he took first place in both events. He finished the 1600 in 4:46.44 and the 3200 in 10:28.95.
“Tyson continues to run smart races, while pushing himself as well,” Schmidt said. “It will be fun to see how he does in the conference meet next week and sections in two weeks.”
Lucas Karel also ran well in the distance events, finishing fourth in both the 1600 and 3200 for the Bulldogs.
Carter Leither turned in a great race in the 200 with a second place finish and a time of 24.85.
In the 300 hurdles, Owen Angell finished third with a time of 46.84 and was second place in the pole vault with a vault of 12’. Owen also grabbed a fourth place finish in the high jump with a jump of 5’4”.
Michael Schmitz finished fifth in the 110 hurdles for the Bulldogs and the 4x200 relay team (Leither, Luke MacDonald, Carter Reckelberg and Ben Howe) took third place. Also placing this was the 4x400 relay team of Leither, MacDonald, Cade Stommes, and Angell. Keeping with the third place theme was the 4x800 relay of Stommes, Alex Kinney, Mason Becker, and Caleb Rackelberg.
“A strong wind for the meet really cut down on some of our times in the running events, but also aided our jumpers as Carter Reckelberg set a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 37’2”,” Schmidt said.
