Boys track team ready for M8 Championships

The Becker boys track and field team is gearing up for the end of the season competitions, starting with the Mississippi 8 Conference Championship meet next Wednesday, May 25th at St. Francis.

Tuesday, the boys participated in Monticello’s first ever twilight meet as a final tune up for the post-season.

“This meet was meant for the athletes to get one final chance at a personal best time or to compete in an event to prepare them for the conference and section meets coming up,” Coach Paul Schmidt said.

“We decided to run our top relay teams in this meet so we took some kids out of individual events and placed them in relays to make some final decisions on which relays we may run at upcoming meets.”

The 4x200 relay team of Logan Eisele, Carter Reckelberg, Mitchell Soltau, and Carter Leither won their event with a time of 1:37.04.

“For the first time this year, we also ran this same relay team in the 4x100, and they ran well to finish in fourth place with a 46.43,” Schmidt added.

The 4x400 team of Eisele, Owen Angell, Tyson Ricker and Leither ran their best time of the year finishing in 3rd place with a time of  3:37.9.

“On the individual side of the meet we had some great performances and personal best,” Schmidt said.  “Tyson Ricker broke the two minute mark in the 800 meters and finished with a time of 1:59.19, while Owen Angell had a six inch personal best in the high jump clearing six feet for the first time in his career.”

Angell also won the pole vault at 13’ and the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.66.

Parker Spindler finished fifth in the 1600 with a time of 4:54 and Ricker finished 4th in the 400 with a time of 55.32. Carter Reckelberg jumped 18’5” for a fifth place finish in the long jump.

Schmidt reported that many of his athletes will participate in the JV conference meet on May 19th, which will wrap up their season.
