The Big Lake Hornets boys track team competed at Monticello May 4. Four schools were represented in the meet including Big Lake, Monticello, Princeton and St. Francis.
“Great effort and performances after being off for so long,” said Head Coach Bob Blanchard. “Three all-time, top 10 peformances in the 100 and high jump (Jack Iverson, Reed Bottema and Carson Kunz). Lots of season’s best and PR’s all over the track and field.”
Blanchard indicated his team still needs to continue to improve and get better.
In the 100M, Jack Iverson captured second place with a time of 11.36. Bottema finished third at 11.43, Joe Murphy sixth (11.64), Conner Stukenholtz 22nd (12.86) and Charlie Madsen 30th (13.67).
In the 200M, Iverson again took second with a time of 23.60. He was followed by Bottema in third (23.77), Murphy in sixth (24.07), Wouson Nehwah 21st (26.54) and Stukenholtz 22nd (26.66).
In the 800M, Spencer Vold took first with a time of 2:16.30. He was followed by Jacob Dietsch in seventh (2:44.13), Tanon Jacobson in 10th (2:49.33) and Vincent Anderson 13th (2:58.67).
In the 1600M, Matt Denzen captured 10th place (5:46.65), Dietsch 12th (5:51.54) and Jacobson 14th (6:01.81).
Owen Layton took second in the 3200M with a time of 10:41.67.
In the 100M hurdles, Rick Edlund took fourth (20.61), Nehwah fifth (21.33) and Madison sixth (21.99).
In the 300M hurdles, Christian Noble took second (46.00), Zach Smith eighth (51.21), Edlund 11th (52.99), Gauge Hoffman 12th (53.42) and Madison 13th (53.59).
In the 4x100 relay, the foursome of Bottema, Murphy, Iverson and Hayden Thieke took second in 46.09.
In the 4x800 relay, the squad of Noble, Spencer Vold, Owen Layton and Matt Denzen took third with a time of 9:10.50.
In the discus, Zach Dembinski took fourth (98’10”), Riley Thompson fifth (96’ 7”), Austin Eccless ninth (91’6”), Luke Hugo 11th (89’2”) , Ike Howell 16th (83’6”), Eric Peredo 19th (81’4”), Brady Johnson 21st (76’10”), Edlund 22nd (75’8”), JC Sanchez 24th (69’7”), Alec Kapsner 25th (69’5”), Cody Colbert 27th (57’5”), Vincent Anderson 29th (54’8”) and Alex Kuntz 30th (40’8”).
In the shot put, Hugo took seventh (38’10”), Zach Dembinski eighth (32’11”), Eccless 12th (30’11”), Howell 15th (29’11.5”), Edlund 16th (29’8”), Sanchez 19th (28’11.5”), Johnson 21st (27’5.5”), Peredo 22nd (26’3”), Kapsner 23rd (25’8.5”), Thompson 23rd (25’8.5”), Anderson 25th (25’0”), Colbert 26th (24’6.5”) and Kuntz 28th (19’6”).
In the high jump, Kunz took second with a leap of 5’10”. He was followed by Murphy in fourth (5’6”) and Nehwah seventh (5’2”).
In the triple jump, Thieke took first with a 38’6” leap. Wyatt Windhorts took second with a 38’3” jump and Noble captured third with a 38’1” jump.
In the long jump, Iverson topped the field with a 20’3” jump. Thieke was seventh (18’4”), Bottema eighth (18’0”), Nehwah 14th (16’9.5”), Hoffman 19th (14’8”) and Austin Brethorst was 21st (12’10.75”).
In pole vault, Trevor Maruska took second (9’6”) and Zach Smith was sixth (8’6”).
