Boys Lacrosse Team Off To A Hot Start

The Becker boys lacrosse team beat St. Paul Wednesday to improve to 5-1 on the year.
 
The team began the season April 14 against Chisago Lakes and eked out a four point win, 12-9 on the road.
 
In their first home match of the season April 20, the boys found themselves on the losing end of a 12-6 game, accounting for their only loss so far.
 
Becker hosted Grand Rapids April 22 and squeaked out an 8-7 victory. Five days later, they traveled to Waconia and thrashed the host team, 19-2 for their third win of the young season.
 
They again hit the road April 29 to Rocori and smoked them by a 14-6 score.
 
The team is coached by Brandon Kent and assisted by Ethan Boutin.
 
Becker varsity is returning eight starters from last year including midfielders, senior Milan Kent and junior Cale McMillan.  The other returners are senior, long stick midfielder Alex Meidt, junior attackman Zack Olsen-Burkman and senior attackman Colton Reiter. On defense the team has seniors Noah Johnson and Owen Houghton and goalie is senior Jacob Edling.  
 
Also starting this year are senior defenseman Brook Zoller and sophomore attackman Blake Angell.  
 
Others receiving extensive playing time and contributing to the team’s success are senior midfielders Isaiah Rathbun, Mitchell Bentley, Wyatt Nett and Jake Richter as well as junior midfielders Brett Reichle and Alex Nelson.  Rounding out the squad are senior attackman Lynn Carlson and freshman defenseman Kaj Fritch.
 
This year’s Captains are Kent and McMillan.
 
With a season record at 5-1, Becker’s leading scorers are Kent with 18 goals and eight assists — averaging 5.2 points per game; Reiter with 15 goals and four assists — averaging 3.17 points per game;  Olsen-Burkman with 11 goals and three assists — averaging 2.33 points per game and McMillan with nine goals and four assists — averaging 2.17 points per game.
 
Ground ball leaders are Meidt with 45, Kent with 28 and McMillan with 26.  
 
Edling has 60 saves on 103 shots on goal.
