The Becker/Big Lake Eagles split two games this week.
Becker-Big Lake 5, Morris/Benson 3
Monday, the Eagles played a game against Benson and won by two.
In the first period, Morris takes penalty Eagles couldn’t capitalize. Then, the Eagles take a penalty (Jacob Boe) and Morris can’t capitalize, but Morris scores first goal of game.
The Becker-Big Lake boys proceeded to cause a tie in the score on goal by where Tyler Schmitt assists to Luke Ruppelius and Ethan Orgon. In the second period, Jacob Bahe received a tripping penalty. Another Eagles penalty (Tucker Rhodes 2 and 10 misconduct). Morris scored to go up 2-1.
Then, there is a powerplay goal by Jacob Bahe, with assists from Luke Mehelich and Ethan Orgon. Eagles score again Tyler Schmitt assist from Tyler Ruppelius and Ethan Orgon. The Becker-Big Lake team was up 3 to 2 by the end of the second period.
In period three, Ethan Tobako scored a goal with assists from Kellen Hurt and Luke Mehelich. Ethan Tobako scored again; this time assisted by Luke Mehelich and Jacob Bahe. Morris scored in the final minute to make it 5 to 3. The Eagles made 31 shots during the game, while Morris made 30. Another good game from goaltender Alec Anderson.
Highland Park 7, Becker-Big Lake 3
Last week, Becker-Big Lake went up against Highland Park and lost by four goals.
During the first period, the opposing team scored first. Then, a Highland Park penalty resulted in a powerplay goal by Tyler Schmitt, with assists from Ethan Orgon and Jacob Bahe. Despite Eagles out shooting the other team (17 to 6), Highland Park scored again.
During the second period, the visiting team scored three times, while the Eagles only scored once. Then, Corbin Kollar made a goal off a defenseman’s skate, assisted by Ethan Orgon. However, Highland Park scored a minute later to end the second period at 5 to 3.
In the third period, the Eagles received two penalties. The Eagles killed off those power plays. Tyler Schmitt scored on awarded penalty shot, but Highland Park scored two more times. The final score was 7 to 3.
“The Becker-Big Lake team had trouble keeping forward high in offensive zone resulting in easy runs down the ice by Highland Park. We did pretty well with one penalty in each of the first two periods. We lost focus and took three penalties in the third. Unfortunately, the Eagles let another conference game get away despite outshooting them 36 to 31,” commented Coach Jason Hartfiel.
