Boys Golf Team Retains Second Place In Conference

The Becker boys golf team hit the road for two meets this past week and finished second in both meets.

Annandale Invite

Becker had a terrific day on the links Monday as part of the 16th Annual Daryl Gunnarson Memorial Invitational. They took home the second place prize and were just three points out of tying the top team.

“We finally had a nice day for golf and the kids showed what they are capable of,” said Head Coach Dan Olson. “Everyone played great!”

Alex Stanz (81) and Adam Schug (82) placed 13th and 14th individually, but Becker did not even use their scores since the rest of the team did even better.

“To have all six kids place 14th or better is unbelievable,” said Olson.

Freshmen Jackson Fluck and Brandon Abrahamson led all Becker scorers with 78s, good enough for a tie for fourth place. Michael Sogard finished fifth with a 79 and Hunter Hammer sixth with an 80.

Josh Polingo of Litchfield had the top score of the day with a 70.

“I wish I had to do that every meet,” said Olson.  “The kids showed what they are capable of shooting and hopefully this will be the shot of confidence that they needed to start believing in themselves and their ability.”

Foley Invite

The Bulldogs finished the nine-hole Foley invite Tuesday with a very respectable 162 to finish second behind Cathedral on a windy day. The guys kept the momentum from Monday’s meet going and the team was able to limit any big numbers today on Foley’s  short, but tight course.

With the second place finish, Becker remains in second place in the Granite Ridge Conference.

Sogard was Becker’s top shooter with a 39, good for a tie for fourth. Zimmerman’s David Molinari shot a superb 36 to lead all golfers.
