Boys Golf Team Moves Into First Place In Conference

The Becker boys golf team participated in a pre-section meet Monday, then a conference meet Tuesday. Sartell Pre-Sections Junior Bulldog golfer Alex Stanz captured first place at Blackberry Ridge in Sartell Monday, shooting a solid 78  to win by two. Head Coach Dan Olson said the weather was cold and windy and the greens at Blackberry were “rock hard.”

Despite the conditions, Becker captured second place behind Cathedral with a team score of 341.

Sophomore Gavin Murphy surprised many including his coach as he tallied a nice 86 to finish seventh.

“Murphy had a great round,” said Olson.  “The others played well at times, but took some big numbers.”

Mora Invitational
The Bulldogs took first place in Mora Tuesday, even with the cold, windy conditions that eventually turned to pouring rain.

The Stanz brothers led the way for Becker with Zach shooting a 38 and Alex shooting a 39.  Fluck's 42 was a roller coaster ride, as he had two bad holes that he overcame before things got worse.

“He showed his mental toughness and held it together,” said Coach Olson.

Abrahamson was Becker’s fourth score with a 44.

“He had it going early, but struggled down the stretch,” said Olson.

Becker (163) beat out Cathedral (166) by three points and moved into first place by a slight margin in the Granite Ridge Conference.

Foley’s Preston Kopel was the medalist with a 37, just ahead of the Stanz brothers.
