Boys Golf Closes Out Regular Season At Home

By Bill Morgan, Staff Writer

Last weekend, the Becker boy's golf team competed in the Detroit Lakes North/South invite. Monday they traveled to Wapicada and Thursday they hosted their first meet of the year at Pebble Creek.

Bemidji Meet

The Bulldogs played at Bemidji Town and Country Club last Friday in weather that was less than desirable and finished with a 338.  Heavy rain and strong winds moved in halfway through the round, which made playing conditions tough.

All of the low team scores came from the earlier waves of tee times that were able to finish before the storms hit.  Considering the conditions, the 338 the Becker boys shot “was not a bad score,” said Head Coach Dan Olson.

Alex Stanz was low for the Bulldogs, carding an 80.  Lucas Dertinger tallied an 85, Zach Stanz carded an 86 and Austin Seavert notched an 87.

Park Rapids Meet

Saturday, Becker played at Headwaters Golf Club in Park Rapids in cooler temperatures, but windy and drier conditions.

The Bulldogs played much better golf, shooting a team 317.

Seavert was low man for the Bulldogs carding a 77.  Alex and Zach Stanz each shot a 78 and Dertinger finished with an 84.

“Austin played some great golf on the inward nine,” said Olson. “It was really great to see him put together a solid round.”

The team ended the two-day invite in seventh place.

Wapicada Meet

Tuesday, the Bulldogs shot 317 and took second place.

Alex Stanz led the team again, shooting a 74. Dertinger had a spectacular 77, Zach Stanz had an 81 and Seavert carded an 85.

“Weather was not the best for the first half of the meet as it was raining,” said Olson. “The weather did finally clear and it became great playing conditions.”

Dertinger’s five-over par round turned delighted the coach.

“It was great to see him  play that well at our final conference meet,” Olson said.  “Alex and Zach played very solid, just had a few bad holes.”

Becker finished in second place overall in conference play.

Alex Stanz (second) and Zach Stanz (seventh)  earned all conference awards.

Seavert and Dertinger received honorable mention awards.

Becker Invitational

The Bulldogs hosted a 17-team meet at Pebble Creek Thursday and finished sixth.

Mounds Park Academy captured first place with a team total of 315. They were followed by Mound Westonka (320), Hutchinson (321), Edina (325), Wayzata (325) and Becker (329).

Becker’s Alex Stanz captured fifth place with a 77. Michael Uhas of Mound Westonka had the low score (71) followed by Brock Bliese of MPA (73), Walker Schwappach of Edina (76), Jackson Peacock of MPA (76) and Stanz (77).

Alex’s freshman brother, Zach, shot an 82 — good enough for 22nd place. Lucas Dertinger also shot an 82 and finished in 23rd. Gavin Murphy carded an 88 for 54th place, Austin Seavert had a 91 for 67th place and Cole Benson had a 91 for 68th place.
