Boys Bb Team Looks Sharp To Start Season

The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 with two wins and one loss this week.

The Bulldogs took on Little Falls Thursday in a game rescheduled from Dec. 6.
 
Guard Michael Veldman led the Bulldogs with 21 points and the defense slammed the door in the second half as Becker improved to two games over .500 with a 15-point win.
 
The game was close throughout the first half and play was very physical, but when the horn sounded for the first break, Becker was enjoying a precarious, three point lead at 34-31.
 
Whatever Head Coach Josh Ihrke’s message was at halftime seemed to be the perfect medicine as Becker scored 30 points to just 18 for the Flyers in the second frame.
 
Clayton Gallus made double figures with an impressive 10 points as Becker got scoring from their bench as well as 10 of their 11 players made the score sheet. Blake Barthel had eight, Matt Yoerg and Zack Moeller had seven, Dawson Brown had four, Dillon Radunz had three, Andrew Davalos had two and Jake Fobbe and Hunter McCalla had one each.
 
The Flyers’ top scorer was Bryce Zawatzke, who had 21 points.
 
Becker 71, Milaca 68 
 
Moeller had 19 points as the Bulldogs (2-1) held off the Wolves in a Granite Ridge Conference game Tuesday night in Milaca.
 
Veldman added 16 points for Becker (2-1) and Davalos had 13 points.
 
Levi Hunt had 16 points for the Wolves (1-2), Mike Garber had 15 points, Matthew Fransen had 14 points and Logan Mero had 11 points.
 
The Bulldogs entered halftime down by eight points but bounced back in the second with a 42-point outburst that carried them to victory.
 
Also scoring for Becker were Barthel (7), Brown (6), Gallus (4), Radunz (4) and Matt Conzemius (2). Brown also had seven rebounds and Moeller two blocked shots.
 
Sartell 67, Becker 55
 
Veldman had 13 points and Davalos added 10 points for Becker in their home loss to Sartell Saturday.
 
Senior guard Kyle Och led the Sabres to the win over the Bulldogs with 14 points.
 
Senior forward Brandon Snoberger (11 points) and senior forward Clay Mackenthun (10 points) also reached double figures in scoring for Sartell (1-3).
 
Also scoring for Becker were Yoerg (9), Barthel (7), Brown (7), Moeller (4) and Radunz (2).
 
The Bulldogs played Friday at Big Lake (full report on game in next week’s Citizen), then travel to Albany to take on the Huskies Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
