Boy Golfers ‘Playing Great’ Olson Says

The Becker boys golf team played in three invites this past week, finishing in first place in one, taking second another and sixth in a field of 22.

Becker Invite
The Bulldogs hosted their first meet of the season last Friday and finished in second place behind Michael Sogard’s 75.
 
Thirteen teams traveled to Becker to play golf at Pebble Creek on a warm. sunny afternoon. Cambridge-Isanti took home the first place prize with a team score of 313.
 
Becker was second with a 316 and St. Cloud Tech was fourth with a 320.
 
C-I’s Matt Swanson was the medalist with a round of 72, Sogard was third (75) and St. Cloud Tech’s David Scharenbroich was fifth (76).

Mora Invite
The Bulldogs kept the momentum going Tuesday by winning their first Granite Ridge Conference meet with an impressive 308, finishing 16 strokes ahead of conference leader Cathedral.  
 
The Bulldogs were led  by Fluck's 74, Abrahamson's 76, Schug’s 78 & Stanz's 80. Fluck’s score gave him the second place title and Abrahamson’s 76 the third place prize.  
 
“We were able to cut Cathedral's lead down to 39 strokes,” said Head Coach Dan Olson.  “While it will be tough to catch them, I’m just happy that the boys are playing great golf,”

Brainerd Invite
Becker traveled to Brainerd Tuesday to play 21 teams at The Pines Golf Course at Grandview Lodge.
 
It was a cooler and windier day and the Bulldogs finished sixth.  
 
Becker were led by Fluck (80), Stanz (81), Abrahamson (82) and Sogard (83).  
 
“The Pines has tighter landing areas and the greens that have more slopes and undulations than any other course we play,” said Olson.  “Bad shots will generally lead to doubles and triples.”
 
Becker will play their final conference meet Tuesday at Little Falls.  Going into that final meet - Fluck, Abrahamson, Stanz and Schug all have a shot at making All Conference.  
 
“If they all play the way that have recently, then we should be well represented,” said Olson.
