The Becker/Elk River varsity bowling team returned from state with an impressive ninth-place finish. The state tournament was held Dec. 6 at The Mermaid in Mounds View.
The JV team also made state in their first year of existence but failed to place. They bowled at Memory Lanes in Minneapolis Dec. 7.
The seven-member cooperative varsity team finished second in the Wright County Conference, one game behind first-place winner Monticello. The other teams in the conference are Big Lake, Rogers, STMA and Buffalo.
Bowling is a club sport and the Becker-Elk River team is coached by Patrick Grant, Scott Gable and Matt Hook. They are in their sixth year of existence and they practice at McPete’s in Big Lake.
Two members of the Becker-Elk River varsity team — Mitchell Hook and Austin Gibson — made all-conference and competed in the MHSB All-Conference tournament the weekend of Thanksgiving at the Incline Station in Duluth.
The league begins their season in mid-August and finishes up at state in early December.
The varsity team consists of Ben Boyd, Zach Breuer, Tony Greenwell, Austin Gibson, Scott Gable Jr. and Mitchell Hook.
The JV team consists of Brock Haugland, Devin Bennington, Alexis Stanley, Breanna Haugland, Tyler Greenwell and Jeffrey Thomas.
Both teams are coached by Patrick Grant, Scott Gable and Matt Hook.
