Ex-Bulldog and current UW-Superior Yellowjacket Josiah Borst (tennis) — along with co-junior Matthew Boyde (baseball), have been named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) players of the week in their respective sports, it was announced Monday afternoon.
Borst is the UMAC men's tennis player of the week after going unbeaten at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in three UW-Superior wins.
In a 9-0 win over Crown Thursday, Borst won the No.1 singles match 6-0, 6-2 and then teamed with Will Sherman (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael) in the No. 1 doubles to win 8-2. He was equally impressive the next day at Ripon, winning his singles match 6-0, 6-1 and again teaming with Sherman to win the No. 1 doubles.
Borst completed his monster week Sunday at Lakeland, winning No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1 and then adding another win with Sherman, 8-0.
Borst dropped no more than two games in each singles and doubles matches.
Boyde, meanwhile, is the UMAC baseball player of the week, that after he hit for a .393 average and drove in seven runs during the Yellowjackets' spring break trip. His best game came against Allegheny, going 5-for-6 while driving in three runs as part of the loss.
