The 30th annual Schwan’s USA CUP wrapped up last Saturday, July 19 with championship games for all divisions.
The Becker Girls U14 team won the U14 Silver B bracket championship.
All in all, this year’s tournament featured a record turnout of 1,060 teams from 21 states and 19 countries, making it the largest youth soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere. The weekend and week-long tournaments together generated an estimated $20.4 million in economic impact.
Minnesota clubs (including the Becker team) won nine titles, with Minneapolis United leading the chase with four championship cups. The St. Croix Academy, Minnesota Thunder Academy, Blaine Soccer Club, Woodbury Soccer Club and the Euro Soccer Club from Rochester won a single championship each.
Friday night was Becker’s first playoff game with the girls playing the Lakeville Fury.
Becker dominated and pulled out the victory, 4-1. The Blaze played the Centennial Lynx Saturday morning and won 4-2, vaulting them into the championship game.
Becker took on a team from Marquette, Michigan and eked out the close win by a 2-1 score.
The team consisted of Alli Zimmer, Laura Pearce, Kalani Bauer, Reilly Cencer, Macy Eigen, Megan Peterson, Lauren Sticha, Joey Rothstein, Claire Voigt, Tory Nelson, Maddy Corey, Brittany Kostek, Lauren Gizzi, Megan Dudek, Amber Vogl, Kylie Schmidt, Coach Andy Bartel and Coach Laura Lee.
