The Big Lake wrestling team placed eighth of 13 teams at the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Invitational last Saturday.
The Hornets had one individual champion and five other wrestlers finished in the top six spots in their weight class.
Carson Gellerman (25-0) won the title at 189 pounds. After a bye, the senior beat Birk Swenson of Mounds View by tech fall, 17-2. He beat Aaron Jones of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg by the same score. Then he beat Joseph Muhlstein of Mounds View, 14-4 in the final.
Cash Stortz took third at 133 pounds. He opened with a 7-0 win over Andy Fischer of Becker, then pinned Brady Kirkpatrick of Mound-Westonka at 1:20. He lost a 7-1 decision to champion Brett Swenson of Mounds View, then pinned Ryan LaCanne of Kenyon-Wanamingo at 1:17 in his final match.
Liam Mayer finished third at 215 pounds. After a bye, the 10th-grader pinned Knute Ronningen of Kenyon-Wanamingo at 1:38. He lost a 5-1 decision to Matthew Busse of Howard Lake, then pinned Logan Dudningen of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 1:33 in his final match.
Dallas Sibbet finished fourth at 145 pounds. After a bye, he beat Jack Fischer of Becker, 16-5. He lost to Tony Baumann of Howard Lake, 7-1, then lost by pin to Connor Flanagan of St. Thomas Academy in his last match.
Elijah Schaller finished sixth at 121 pounds. After a loss by tech fall to Boston Kuschel of Becker, he had two bye wins. Then he pinned of Jonah Erickson of St. Thomas Academy at 0:46 and Brady Peacock of Mounds View at 2:41 before losing by pin to Max Schlagel of Howard Lake in his final match.
Cooper Cusick took sixth at 160 pounds. He had four bye wins, but lost his final match, 5-4 to Al Zuniga-Lop from Mound-Westonka.

At a triangular meet last Thursday the Hornets lost to Becker, 44-22 and beat North Branch, 60-8.
