The Big Lake wrestling team scored 44 points and finished 25th at the 38-team Jackhammer Invitational last Friday and Saturday.
Although the Hornets did not compete in every weight class, three wrestlers finished in the top eight spots and three others won at leat two matches to score points.
Cash Stortz took sixth at 133 pounds. He opened with an 18-0 tech fall of Brodie Pachan of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. He followed that with another 18-0 tech fall over Jaden Lilly of Centennial before losing a 13-3 decision to Logan Schwanz of Hutchinson. He beat Arlo Brinkmann of Irondale, 12-0 and followed that with a 7-3 decision over Brodie Pachan. He lost his final match by injury forfeit to Gabriel Morin of Bemidji.
Dallas Sibbet also finished sixth at 145 pounds. He opened with a hard-fought 22-17 win over Jackson Peasley of Pelican Rapids. He beat Noah Christen of Sauk Centre/Melrose, 12-4. He Beat Trevor Holmberg of Pequot Lakes-Pine River, 14-2 before falling to Zach Palmer of Lake Crystal. He lost his final match in a rematch to Holmberg.
Cooper Cusick finished eighth at 160 pounds. He lost his opening match by pin to Evan Just of Centennial. In the consolation rounds, he pinned teammate Caleb Smith, then followed with pins of Henry Cronin of Robbinsdale Armstrong at 0:45 and Payton Herbst of Totino Grace at 0:37. He lost an 8-0 decision to Riley Forar of Lakeville North and lost his final match by pin to Carsen Ziese of Perham.
Austin Frederickson won three matches at 215 pounds. He pinned Aidan Pojanowski of Mille Lacs at 4:37. He beat Benjermen Desroiser of Bemidji, 7-0 and took a 6-4 decision over Keegan Comer of Rock Ridge Virginia.
Grant Volk won two matches at 114 pounds. He pinned Nate Okubo of Champlin Park at 2:59, then beat Blair Kindel of Minnewaska, 10-8 in the consolation round.
Gavin Jones had two consolation wins at 127. He pinned Finn Wallgren of New York Mills at 1:49, then beat Brock Grabow of Barnesville, 16-6.
The Hornets are wrestling this weekend in a 34-team Holiday invitational tournament in Rogers, results next week.
