BL tops Zimmerman and Lakeville North

The Big Lake American Legion baseball team won two more games at home over the past week.

Vs. Thunder

Last Tuesday, Big Lake took an early lead then held on to beat Zimmerman, 16-7.

Big Lake started quickly when Dreeson Millam singled and continued to second on an error. He moved to third when Brendan Goedker reached on an error and scored on a passed ball. Goedker stole home for the second run.

In the second, Dillon Spaeth had a leadoff single then stole second. After Kaeden Tidrick walked, both runners advanced on a passed ball. Spaeth scored on a groundout by Tyrone Fjone and Kidrick scored on a groundout by Millam for a 4-0 lead.

Zimmerman got on the board with a run in the third on two singles, a stolen base and a groundout.

But Big Lake put together one of their biggest innings of the season in the home third. Mason Spoden walked and went to third on a double by Lundquist. Spaeth was hit by a pitch and all three runners eventually scored on a passed ball. Fjone walked, stole two bases and scored on a single by Millam. After Goedker doubled him home, Caleb Martin drove in Goedker with a triple before Spoden singled him home. Jackson LaRoche drove in the eighth run of the inning with a triple for a 12-1 lead.

It looked like the game might end soon by the 10-run rule. But Zimmerman took advantage of three errors and a passed ball to score six runs in the fourth. They had only one hit in the inning, but two walks and a hit batter kept the rally going.

Big Lake got two runs back in the home fourth. Lundquist reached second on a a two-base error and went to third on a passed ball. After Spaeth walked, Lundquist scored on a grounder. Then Tidrick scored on a double by Fjone.

Big Lake got its final two runs in the sixth when Fjone walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Millam. Milllam later scored on a passed ball to close out the scoring.

Milllam started on the mound. He pitched three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out two.

Goedker picked up the win in relief. He allowed four unearned runs, five hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out three.

At the plate, Millam had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs. Goedker had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Fjone doubled, walked twice, drove in two runs and scored two. Spaeth, singled, walked and scored three runs. Martin and Spoden each had two hits and an RBI.

Vs. Lakeville North

Last Monday it was a completely differnt story when Lundquist and Martin combined on a one-hitter to shut out Lakeville North, 1-0.

The only run of the game came in the home first when Goedker tripled and scored on an error on the same play. That was the extent of the scoring.

Lundquist started on the mound and scattered five walks and struck out six over the first. 4.2 innings. Big Lake’s defense didn’t commit an error and turned a double play to prevent a run.   

Martin came in to get the final out in the fifth, then pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save.

At the plate, Goedker, Martin, Spoden, LaRoche and Dawson Veldhuizen each had hits for Big Lake.

Big Lake was scheduled to play St. Francis Tuesday and Cambridge Thursday, results next week. They have games at Becker Monday and Annandale Tuesday this week.
