The Big Lake American Legion Baseball team started its 2025 season with a 7-3 win over Hinckley Thursday.
The Hornets didn’t take long to get their offense going. Connor Lundquist and Caleb Martin walked to start the first inning. One out later Brendan Goedker was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After Mason Spoden singled to drive in a run, Dillon Spaeth walked to re-load the bases. Liam Mayer drew a walk to drive in the second run before Goedker scored on a passed ball for a 3-0 lead. With two outs, Kaeden Tidrick singled to drive in Spoden and Spaeth to put Big Lake ahead, 5-0.
In the fifth, Spoden reached on a third strike passed ball and Millam walked two outs later. Then Tidrick doubled to right center, driving both runners home for a 7-0 lead.
Goedker started on the mound for Big Lake and didn’t allow a run over the first three-plus innings. Millam came in to pitch starting in the fourth and was reached for three runs in the top of the seventh on a walk, two hits and a passed ball. Mayer came in to get the final two outs of the inning to preserve the win.
Goedker went 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and a walk. He struck out seven.
Millam got the win in relief. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks. He struck out two batters.
Tidrick led the offens. He singled, doubled and drove in four runs. Goedker had two hits and scored a run. Spoden and Spaeth each drove in a run and scored one. Millam singled, walked and scored a run.
The Hornets are 1-0 on the season. They played Chisago Lakes Tuesday and Milaca Thursday, results next week. They visit Lakeville North Monday, host Mora 7 p.m. Tuesday and visit Rush City Thursday.
