BL girls soccer has three wins so far

The Big Lake girls soccer team has opened the season with three wins and a tie in its first eight games.

Monday, the Hornets got a first half goal by Rylie Sternquist, assisted by Adeline Hitter.  But Big Lake couldn’t hold the lead as Spectrum scored three times in the second half to win, 3-1.

Kadyn Dilger had 16 saves in the game.

It was a different story last Saturday when the Hornets controlled the game against Two Harbors and came away with a 4-0 win on the road.

Alexis Moen had all four goals, and all in the second half. She was assisted by Hitter twice, Sternquist and Kaycie Jacob.

Dilger turned away five shots on goal.

Last Thursday the Hornets lost a close game at Monticello, 2-1 in a rematch of last year’s section game.

There were no goals in a defensive first half. Sternquist scored an unassisted goal in the second half, and the game was tied, 1-1 until the Magic scored in the final minutes and held on for the win.

Dilger made 11 saves in net.

Last Monday, the Hornets came away with a 1-0 win over North Branch thanks to outstanding goalkeeping by Dilger. She had 17 saves in the game, and Moen had the only goal, assisted by Emma Borer in the first half.

Big Lake lost at Cambridge-Isanti, 2-0 on Sept. 7. The Hornets had six shots on goal the entire game, three by Jacob. But they couldn’t find the back of the net.

Dilger had nine saves.

The Hornets are 3-4-1 on the season. They play at St. Cloud Apollo today (Saturday), at St. Francis Monday and at Becker Thursday.
