BL boys soccer team hits a rough stretch

The Big Lake boys soccer team played well over the past 10 days but couldn’t come up with a win.

The Hornets lost a close 2-1  decision to North Branch on Sept. 11 on the road.

The Vikings scored first to take an early lead in the first half.

Ryler Peterson tied the game for Big Lake later in the first half, but North Branch won the game with a second half goal.

The Hornets lost an away game to Cambridge-Isanti, 4-1 on Sept. 8.

Ryler Peterson got a goal to give the Hornets a first half lead. But things went sour when the Bluejackets erupted for four second-half goals to get the win.

In  a 3-2 loss to Zimmerman on Sept. 4, Big Lake took an early lead on a goal by Lucas Sales at 6:34 in the first half, assisted by Branson Gray.

But it was the last time the Hornets would have the lead. Zimmerman tied the game at 11:44, then went ahead with goals at 32:44 and 35:12 for a 3-1 lead.

The game stayed that way until late in the second half when Elijah Chaistain scored at 34:27 to close the gap. But that was as close as Big Lake could get as time ran out.

The Hornets lost a 1-0 decision to Chisago Lakes on Sept. 3. The game was scoreless until the Wildcats scored at 11:33 in the second half. Big Lake put in a good effort but couldn’t tie the game. Carlos Contreras Cabrera had seven saves in net for the Hornets.

The Hornets played Monticello this past week, results next week. They host Princeton Tuesday at 7 p.m., then visit St. Francis Thursday before returning home to host Watertown-Mayer Saturday at noon.
