The Big Lake boys soccer team won a game and tied one in their first five games of the season.
The Hornets opened their season with a come-from-behind win over Legacy Christian Academy on Aug. 21.
Will Priest opened the scoring for Big Lake at the 22:45 mark of the first period to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.
But Legacy tied the game on a rebound from a corner kick 11 minutes later, then took a 2-1 lead on a penalty shot with 9:22 in the fist half.
Kofi Gyamerah tied the game for Big Lake in the second half before Priest added another goal to give the Hornets a 3-2 lead.
Legacy came back to tie the game at 3-3. But freshman midfielder Lucas Sales got the gamewinner later in the half, and the game ended that way.
The Hornets didn’t fare as well in their next three games. They lost to Hopkins, 4-1 on Aug. 22, with Priest scoring Big Lake’s only goal in the first half.
They fell to Sauk Rapids, 6-1 on Aug. 22, with Elijah Chastain getting the lone goal for Big Lake.
On Aug. 26, they lost to Spectrum, 7-1. Isaac Sales scored Big Lake’s goal.
Last Thursday the Hornets played to a 0-0 tie against Hutchinson at home.
Big Lake is 1-3-1 on the season. They played Chisago Lakes and Zimmerman this past week, results next week. They visit Cambridge-Isanti Monday and North Branch Thursday.
