BL boys cross country win Annandale Invite

The Big Lake boys cross-country team took the top spot of 10 teams at the Annandale Invitational last Tuesday at Southbrook Golf Course.

All the boys varsity had season’s best times to outdistance second-place Annandale by 36 points.

Senior Gavin Flavin led the Hornets, finishing fourth overall in 16:13.1.

Trent Erickson took sixth in 16:45.3. Theo Johnson placed 11th in 15:15.1  Jack Schmidt was 13th in 17:24.1 and Eli Henning finished 18th in 18:08.1 to complete Big Lake’s five scorers.

Max Baron (28th, 18:25) and Eli Schaller (39th, 19:08) were the team’s sixth and seventh runners.

Final team scores were: Big Lake 52; Annandale 88; St. Cloud Tech 92; Dassel-Cokato 97; Litchfield 101; Spectrum 168; Zimmerman 175; Maple Lake 189; Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball 194 and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 231.

The varsity girls also had their fastest times of the season. Ninth-grader Shay France turned in another strong performance, placing fifth overall in 19:45.

Hazel Guldseth (31st, 23:19), Elsie Jagusch (35th, 23:38), Clara Devine (36th, 23:48), and Aubri Judge (47th, 24:43) rounded out the scoring.

Chloe Howe (53rd, 26:21) and Ainsley McGuire (54th, 26:21) were the sixth and seventh runners for the Hornets, who placed seventh as a team.

The Hornets competed at the ROCORI Invitational Thursday in Cold Spring against 18 other teams, results next week. They run at Pebble Creek in Becker, 4 p.m. Thursday.
