The Big Lake baseball team won a game and tied one in their final two games of the regular season last week.
Vs. Magic
Last Monday the Hornets played to a 4-4 tie at Monticello. Big Lake took an early lead with a run in the top of the first.
The Magic came back to take the lead with two unearned runs in the third off Big Lake starter Jackson LaRoche.
It stayed that way until the fifth when Caleb Martin singled in two runs as the Hornets pushed across three runs to take a 4-2 lead.
But the Magic countered with two more unearned runs in the home fifth to tie the score.
Big Lake didn’t score in the sixth, and Brendan Goedker held the Magic scoreless in the home sixth. The game was called after six innings, which resulted in a tie.
LaRoche pitched five innings, allowed just one hit and walked five. All four runs he allowed were unearned. He struck out seven.
Martin had a hit and two RBIs. Goedker singled, doubled and scored a run. William Bilben singled, drove in a run and scored one. Cooper Cusick singled and scored a run.
Vs. C-I
Last Thursday the Hornets scored early and kept the lead all the way in a 7-3 win over Cambridge-Isanti at home.
The Hornets scored three in the first and two more in the third for a 5-0 lead.
The Bluejackets chipped away and scored three runs in the fifth to close the gap off Big Lake starter Owen Wilczek.
But the Hornets got two insurance runs in the home sixth, and reliever Caleb Martin held the Bluejackets scoreless in the seventh to give Big Lake a win in their final regular season game.
Wilczek picked up the win. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks. He struck out seven. Martin allowed a hit and a walk in one inning of work.
At the plate, Martin had tow hits, a walk, drove in a run and scored twice. Wilczek singled twice. LaRoche singled, scored a run and drove in two. Blayne Varner singled and drove in a run. Goedker doubled and scored a run. Trenton Throolin walked twice, scored twice and drove in a run.
The Hornets finished the regular season 8-3-1 in the conference and 10-5-1 overall. They were scheduled to play at Princeton Tuesday in the opening round of the section playoffs, results next week.
