Big Lake athletes had some good performances at the 5AA True Team meet last week in ROCORI.
The boys 4x800 meter relay team of Gavin Flavin, Trent Erickson, Judd Layton and Jack Leuer topped the field in a time of 8:18.66, edging Becker by just over two seconds. It was their fastest time this season.
Leuer also won the individual 800 meters in 1:57.09, with Trent Erickson third in 2:05.37.
The boys also fared well in other relays. The 4x200 team of Josh Dupre, Abe Nebo, Maurice Yekeku and Montell Hester took second in 1:35.64
The 4x400 team of Kamal Bille, Maurice Yekeku, Alec Grew and Leuer placed second in 3:36.00.
Tayla Gassman won the wheelchair 200 meters in 58.52. She was second in the 100 meters in 27.84. She won the shot put and discus with throws of 43’1”.
Leah Uphoff placed third in the girls triple jump at 34’2,” with Naomi Huizenga fifth at 33’3”. Uphoff finished fifth in the girls 100 meter hurdles in 17.07 seconds. Britta White was 12th in 18.05. Uphoff took 14th in the 300 hurdles in 52.91.
Abe Nebo took fifth in the long jump at 20’2.25” and eighth in the triple jump at 39’9.5”. He placed 10th in the 200 meters in 23.63.
Gavin Flavin took fifth in the 3200 meters in 10:22.64.
Jackson Roehl placed seventh in the 110 hurdles in 17.01, with Precieux Sanguma a step back in eighth in 17.09.
Sanguma was sixth in the 300 hurdles in 44.03, with Kamal Bille in seventh in 44.21.
Jerry Vazquez went 5’8” in the high jump to take 10th.
Alayna Boe took 10th in the pole vault at eight feet even.
Montell Hester ran 11.76 in the 100 meters but did not place in the top 10.
Emily Edlund had the fastest time for Big Lake in the 100 meters in 13.37.
Judd Layton took ninth in the 1600 in 4:45, with Theo Johnson 12th in 4:51.97.
Erin Kjellberg ran the 400 meters in 1:06.14, with Addison Holmen close behind in 1:07.99.
Campbell Slattery ran the 1600 meters in 5:58.25.
Alec Grew finished 10th in the boys 400 meters in 54.41.
Greta Schwirtz had the team’s longest throws in the discus (78’8”) and shot put (25’11.25”).
Evan Blackman threw the shot put 39’8.5” to take 13th.
The Hornets competed in an invitational meet at Monticello this past week, results next week.
