Big Lake wrestlers 4th at Crimson Invite

The Big Lake wrestling team placed fourth of 14 teams at the Maple Grove Crimson Invitational last Saturday.

The Hornets had two individual champions and five other wrestlers placed in the top four spots in their weight class.

Cash Stortz took the title at 133 pounds. After a bye, the senior won by tech fall, 15-0, over Logan Buman of Maple Grove. He pinned Levi Sattler of Benilde St. Margarets at 3:49 in semifinals, then beat Landen Lorch of Blaine, 8-0 in the championship match.

Carson Gellerman won the 189 pound division. After a bye, the senior pinned Royal Dickson of Champlin Park at 2:51. He beat Noah Fox of Maple Grove by tech fall, 17-2 in the semifinals, then beat James Marks of Bismarck Legacy by tech fall, 18-0 in the final.

Grant Volk was third at 114 pounds. After a bye, he pinned Lincoln Rudek of Maple Grove at 5:49. He lost by tech fall to Beau Haugen of MAHACA in his next match, but came back to pin Jonah Erickson of St. Thomas Academy at 0:54 and beat Blake Schneider of Bismarck Legacy, 10-4 in his final match.

Gavin Jones took third at 127 pounds. He pinned Beny Doh of St. Paul Highland Park at 3:51. After a loss by pin to Alex Gau of Champlin Park, he pinned Suhaad Salim of Blaine at 0:53, then pinned Nathan Chapeau of St. Thomas Academy at 5:48.

Dallas Sibbet took third at 152 pounds. After a bye, he pinned Ethan Kester of North Branch at 0:40. He lost by pin to Clark Thompson of Bismarck Legacy, but came back to pin Samuel Smude of Blaine at 1:00 and Josiah Soliday of St. Thomas Academy at 3:16.

Caleb Smith finished fourth at 160 pounds. After a bye, he beat Jaeden Hubbard of Maple Grove, 11-2, then lost by tech fall to Isaac Roberts of St. Paul Highland Park in his last match.

Liam Mayer took fourth at 215 pounds and had to wrestle six matches. He beat Aydan Loren of North Branch by tech fall, 19-4. After a loss by pin to Ben Schultz of Maple Grove, he pinned Will Vincent of Champlin Park at 1:53. He pinned Davian Vu of Blaine at 2:45, then beat Connor Olson of MAHACA, 10-4 before losing a 7-3 decision to Javon Johnson of MAHACA.

Triangular Meet

Last Thursday, the Hornets split a triangular meet, beating Monticello 54-24 and losing to Cambridge-Isanti, 50-14.

The Hornets had five non-forfeit wins against Monticello.

At 107 Hayden Bessette pinned Logan Wrona at 2:08.

At 139 Cash Stortz pinned Keegan Elfstrom at 1:04.

At 152 Dallas Sibbet pinned Nicholas Friedrichs at 1:32.

At 172 Caleb Smith pinned Vinny Alm at 4:09.

At 215 Carson Gellerman pinned Jeydn Midas at 0:51.

The Hornets won just three matches against Cambridge-Isanti.

At 139 Cash Stortz beat Ruger Block, 15-4.

At 152 Dallas Sibbet beat Reshard Cronemiller, 15-7.

At 189 Carson Gellerman pinned Jarred Goodman at 1:52.

The Hornets are competing this weekend at the Jackhammer Invitational at Pequot Lakes, results next week.
