The Big Lake tennis team kicked off their busy stretch last Thursday when they hit the road and took on St. Francis. The Hornets were ultimately defeated by the Fighting Saints 6-1. The lone victory once again came from Eleonora Piva out of the #1 singles spot. The senior made quick work of her opponent with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
On Saturday the Hornets welcomed Willmar, Roseau, and North Branch to town for a quad. Big Lake defeated Willmar 6-1 but lost to Roseau 4-3 and North Branch 5-2.
The team was dominant against Willmar, especially in doubles, where the team swept all three matches. The partners for doubles matches were Amelia Gardner & Grace Knodle, Amber Gunewald & Audrey Guldseth, and Lilly Trulock & Lexi Kapsner. In #4 singles Emily Shoop easily defeated her opponent with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Against Roseau, all three victories came from the singles matches. Kira Browen, Lilly Trulock, and Eleonora Piva all scored wins for the Hornets.
Piva was also one of two wins for Big Lake against North Branch. She won all three of her matches on Saturday. The other win against the Vikings came from Gardner and Knodle in the #1 singles slot.
