Big Lake Sports Capsules

The following capsule is for the latest contests for the Big Lake boys and girls basketball teams and Becker/Big Lake hockey.

Hornet Boys BB

The boys basketball team moved to 13-8 with two wins over Cambridge-Isanti and Chisago Lakes and two losses to North Branch and Breck.

Feb. 7, the Hornets hosted North Branch and  lost bu a score of 61-44. Big Lake was led by Owen Layton who had 8 points.

Feb. 9, Big Lake visited Breck and lost 75-64. Mitchell Hill led the Hornets with 16 points.

Feb. 14, the Hornets hosted Cambridge-Isanti and won by 10, 90-80. Hill again led all Big Lake scorers with 23, followed by Trevor Maruska who had 21.

On Feb. 16, Big Lake traveled to Chisago Lakes and came home with a win, 95-84. Owen Wilczekwas Big Lake’s top scorer with 23 points.

Hornet Girls BB

The Hornet girls have gone 1-6 since our last report, winning Feb. 7 at North Branch (32-31), then losing Feb. 9 at home against C-I (64-25), Feb. 14 on the road at C-I (64-25), Feb. 16 at Chisago Lakes (50-39), Feb. 17 at Delano (69-18), Feb. 20 at Willmar (76-44) and Feb. 21 at home against St. Francis (62-29).

BBL Hockey

The Becker/Big Lake Hockey team fell to 10-16 with five straight losses since their last report to finish the regular season.

The team lost against Pine City Area Feb. 7 by a score of 5-3. On Feb. 9, they played Bagley/Fosston on the road and lost 5-1. The next day, Feb. 10, they hosted Cambridge-Isanti and lost 3-2. On Feb. 13, they traveled to play and River Lakes and lost 3-1. On the season finale Feb. 18, they played at Sauk Rapids-Riceand lost 6-1.
