Big Lake softball shuts out Zimmerman

The Big Lake Hornets softball team shut out conference opponent Zimmerman Tuesday and won by a score of 11-0.

Tessa Fjone was excellent in the circle for the team. Pitching all five innings while allowing just one hit and no walks.

Three walks in the first four batters was how the bottom half of the first started for Big Lake. Then a two-out single by Alyssa Windorski put the team up 2-0. In the second, three walks and three singles scored three runs to extend the Hornet lead to 5-0. The bats were quiet for a few innings before they exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Thunder pitching staff issued five free passes to start the inning which scored two runs. Then Addy Chaffee doubled home two runs to make the score 9-0. And Desi Dudek provided the winning runs with another double.

At Mound Westonka

Saturday saw the Hornets travel to Mound Westonka and score a 12-7 non-conference victory. Ava Prosser was the offensive catalyst out of the leadoff spot. She went four-for-five with three RBIs, and the team scored at least one run every inning.

Big Lake got on the board quickly courtesy of a Prosser leadoff home run. After that the team pushed five more runs across to take a 6-0 lead into the bottom half of the fourth.

The WhiteHawks got on the board with a solo home run of their own in the fourth. They added one run in each of the fifth and sixth as well. But the Hornet bats stayed hot, and they took a 12-3 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

Mound Westonka scored four runs in the final frame, but they were unable to complete the rally, and the Hornets held on for a 12-7 win.

Samantha Nohrenberg collected three hits and scored twice for Big Lake. Kamrynn Tschritter and Dudek each had two hits and two RBIs. And Macy Bowne pitched 6.1 innings to earn the win.

Vs. Chisago Lakes

Last Friday the team lost 9-7 to Chisago Lakes at home. Prosser, Chaffee, Tschritter, and Dudek each had a pair of hits in the loss.

Vs. Princeton

The Hornets lost last Thursday to the Princeton Tigers by a score of 10-0. Big Lake was unable to generate much offense, recording only one hit for the game.

Coming up this week the team has a pair of home conference games against Monticello on Thursday and St. Francis next Monday.
