Big Lake Legion again downs Becker

The Big Lake legion baseball team is proving to be an offensive juggernaut.

Regardless of the opponent, the team is piling up impressive run totals in their games.  Tuesday night, for the second time in a week, it was the Becker legion team on the receiving end of a lopsided score as Big Lake won, 14-2.

“Our team has been performing really well together,” said Big Lake Manager Robert Hoekstra, who raved about his team’s offensive performance.

“We just keep progressing and getting better during the course of the season.”

Tuesday night, Big Lake scored early and often, assuming a 6-0 lead after two innings.  As a team, they scored in every inning except the third.  The five run second inning saw a pair of big hits for Big Lake, as Preston Schlegel hit a two run double and teammate Brandon Stern also brought in a pair of runs with a base hit.  Stern added a run scoring triple in the fourth inning, as his team notched three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings as well.

Big Lake led the hit parade in the game, notching 14 hits to Becker’s five while both teams struck out six times.  The teams played good defense, with Big Lake committing the lone error.

Individually, Big Lake had five players who each had a pair of hits – Zeus Schlegel, Preston Schlegel, Brandon Stern, Keenan Hjermstad and Nolan Reiter.  Stern led the way with three RBI, while Big Lake runners went wild in the game with eight stolen bases.

Becker notched its two runs in the fifth inning on a Noah Mohs RBI single and a Dalton Fouquette sacrifice fly that scored Zach Wenner, who had singled earlier in the inning. For Becker, Mohs was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offensive effort.

On the mound, Preston Schlegel started for Big Lake and went four innings, scattering two hits and striking out five Becker batters.  Hjermstad pitched one-third of an inning before Stern finished up by securing the last five outs.

For Becker, Andrew Kolbinger drew the start on the mound and gave up five hits in his two innings of work before Cam Fischer came on for a pair of innings.  Dalton Fouquette and Bennett Tatge each threw an inning in relief.
