Big Lake Hive celebrates successful season

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted by Big Lake Hive Cheer Team.)

The Big Lake Hive is a competition cheer program created for boys and girls in our community. It was formed as an association in the summer of 2022 by a dedicated group of cheerleaders, coaches, and parents and the program has seen great success in its inaugural year. The group started off with various team bonding events, which built trust and respect between the cheerleaders and coaching staff. The team spent August – January learning choreography, building stunt groups, and strengthening that bond into what many refer to as a “cheer family.” That bond has translated to great success on and off the mat. In January, the Hive competed in three competitions, placing first at all three events, which included the MCCA State Competition.

Off the mat, Hive cheerleaders have also been busy with fundraising events to support this first-year club and help with costs for uniforms, equipment, and other program needs.  Some of the events included:  Knights of Columbus breakfast, a dog wash at Groom My Friend, Trunk-or-Treat, and a local Halloween favorite in Big Lake, Spooktacular. Not only did cheerleaders help raise funds for the program, but they got to be part of the community by volunteering time and providing wholesome events for families.

The Hive is a successful, growing program open to boys and girls ages 8 – 18 of all skill levels.  Cheerleaders, gymnasts, dancers, and beginners are encouraged to come check it out, learn how to get involved, and grow your skills. The Hive recently hosted a successful Bring A Friend to Practice event for future cheerleaders to experience the excitement. There are more fun activities planned in the future.
