CONSISTENCY has been key for Hokan Bengtson’s team this year and the #1 doubles team of CJ Howard (front) and Andrew Schneider has been that from the get-go. Howard and Schneider easily beat Pine City’s Jared Kotek and Jonah Bergstrom, 6-2, 6-3 Thursday in Becker’s final regular season home match.

Bengtson’s Team On Brink Of “Something Special”

The Becker Bulldog boys tennis team captured the Granite Ridge Conference title by beating Pine City Thursday in their second-to-the-last match of the year. The ‘Dawgs finished 5-0 in the GRC and are 18-3 overall, tying a school record for most wins in a single season.
 
Becker also beat Duluth East, Anoka and Aitkin this week.

The boys dropped just two games in singles Thursday at home on Parent’s Night. 
 
“(The guys) came out focused and ready to compete,” said Head Coach Hokan Bengtson.  “A sign of a top team is consistency and our guys are starting to show signs of that trait. We have a chance to do something special this year in the playoffs.”

Becker went 2-2 in singles play while sweeping the three sets in doubles.

#1 doubles: Howard and Lindquist (BB) beat Luke Hietala and David Holliday (DE), 6-4, 6-1; #2 doubles:  Quernemoen and Crocker (BB) beat Michael Sutherland and Dylan Junker (DE), 6-7(6-8), 6-2, 7-6(7-1); #3 doubles: Bonsante and Gruenhagen (BB) beat Ty Kruger and Tristan Bombardier (DE), 6-2, 6-0.

The boys travel to Mound-Westonka Monday to close out the regular season. The Section 8AA playoffs begin May 22-23.
