The Becker Lady Bulldogs improved to 11-2, 5-0 in the conference with a big win over Monticello Tuesday on the road.
Becker used full court man-to-man pressure to help win this contest by 32.
“Monticello has great size and experience in their post game,” said Becker Head Coach Dan Baird.
“So we really try to create turnovers before it got into a half-court contest.”
Monticello’s Anna Olson (headed to Vermont on D1 basketball scholarship) has always been a handful inside. Baird did a great job getting his girls to double down on her every time she touched the ball.
“She still scored (18) because she’s an excellent player, but we made it hard on her,” he said.
Becker’s Julia Bengtson led the Bulldogs in scoring with 24 points. She continued her excellent defensive play, as she had the responsibility of guarding the posts once Megan Gamble and Courtney Nuest got into foul trouble.
“Jules really came up huge for the Bulldogs, having to switch from playing defense on the guards to the post,” said Baird.
Freshman Maren Westin came in off the bench and electrified the crowd with some amazing individual moves, and scored 15 points in the process. Adeline Kent continued to pressure the opponents’ point guards. She scored 16 points with seven assists and continued her excellent season on both ends of the court. C. Nuest led the team with eight rebounds
Becker shot 53% from the floor and committed just 10 turnovers. The Magic shot 37% with 21 turnovers. Becker had 30 rebounds to Monticello’s 24.
The Magic fell to 7-5, 1-4 on the year.
Becker scoring: Bengtson 24, Kent 16, Westin 15, Gamble 6, Dani Nuest 4, Ayla Brown 4, Alayna Lindquist 2, Jackie Yoerg 2, Aly Gruenes 2.
Magic scoring: Olson 18, Alayna Manning 6, Lauran Zwack 4, Katelyn Lindberg 4, Madison Katzenberger 3, Olivia Hanson 2, Cat Terres 2, Graycee Roubinek 2, Morgynn Spears 2.
