The Becker Wrestling team is ranked number one and number three in the state for AA according to two different ranking platforms. They have eight wrestlers ranked — five of those wrestlers ranking within the top two.
The captains for the upcoming season consists of senior Landen Kujawa, junior Bennet Kujawa, and 2024 class AA 139-pound state champion senior Kaden Nicolas.
Becker vs. Pierz
Their first meet was on Thurs., Dec. 12, a triangular meet against Pierz and Rocori. Becker came out on top.
After two quick losses things started to pick up when four Becker wrestlers defeated their opponents in either a pin or decision. Jacob Williams (121-lb) pinned his opponent and received a score of six points. Bennett Kujawa (122-lb) received a technical fall and was awarded with five points. Boston Kuschel (127-lb) and Jake Rosenow (139-lb) won their matches with an 8-3 decision and a 20-6 major decision. Both scores combined equaled seven points for Becker.
Kujawa (152-lb) defeated his opponent in a 4:02 fall and earned six points. Kaden Nicolas (160-lb) defeated his opponent in a 17-2 technical fall and earned five points. Owen Angell (172-lb) defeated his opponent in a 0:35 fall and earned six points. The final score was 35-33 for Becker.
Becker Vs. Rocori
Becker crushed Rocori 48 to 15 with most of the matches ending in a pin or a forfeit.
Jacob Williams (114-lb) defeated his competitor with a 5-1 decision and earned five points.
Rylan Kujawa (121-lb) and Nolan Jurek (127-lb), won their matches by forfeit. Bennett Kujawa (133-lb) defeated his competitor in a 19-4 technical fall and earned five points. Jack Rosenow (139-lb) defeated his competitor in a 16-4 major decision and earned four points.
Grady Muellner (152-lb) 2:46 won by pin, Kaden Nicolas (160-lb) 1:06 won by pin, and Owen Angell (172-lb) 0:58 won by pin.
Jackson Duncan won by forfeit.
Fourth Place
They then competed in the Paul Bunyan Wrestling Tournament where Becker took fourth place overall against 15 teams.
The event was played Dec. 13-14.
Odin Duncombe (107-lb) started off strong in the tournament after he pinned three of his opponents. He then succumbed to his next two opponents. Jacob Williams (114-lb) pinned his competitor from White Bear Lake in a first round fall. He would go on to defeat one more opponent from Grand Rapids in a second round fall.
Boston Kuschel (121-lb) was on a roll after defeating all three of his opponents by pin. Kuschel had a first round fall, third round fall, and a 21-1 technical fall. Just like Kuschel, Nolan Jurek (127-lb) defeated three of his opponents. One in a 1:25 fall and the other two in 10-4 decisions.
Bennet Kujawa and Brady Anderson competed in the same weight class (133-lb) and they both defeated their competitors. Jake Rosenow (139-lb) defeated three of his competitors in either a pin or a decision. Landen Kujawa and Grady Muellner competed in the same weight class (152-lb) with Kujawa beating three of his opponents and Muellner beating one of his opponents.
Last year’s state champion, Kaden Nicolas, beat out three of his opponents in either a pin or in a major decision. Kendrick Tomasko (172-lb) defeated one of his competitors in a 3:01 fall. Logan Carrington (189-lb) defeated one of his competitors in a 10-7 decision. Aiden Golley (215-lb) defeated one of his competitors in a 6-5 decision
