Becker students learn about RC cars

Last week, several Becker students attended an RC car racing event hosted by Becker Community Ed and Party Crashers RC Racing from Albertville.

Before they could start tearing up the track, the kids listened to a lecture about how remote control cars work. Chris McKellips, event organizer from Party Crashers, had a dismantled car attached to a wood board. The kids were able to play with the remote and see how turning the wheel of the remote made the wheels pivot, and pulling the trigger made the engine whirr. McKellips also talked about how the remote sends a signal to the car to tell it what to do, and how RC hobbyists can find replacement/customized parts for their cars at hobby shops.

After learning about how the cars worked, the students took turns racing the cars or righting any cars that flipped over during the race.

McKellips says his company has been bringing RC fun to kids around the community since last October. Besides creating educational opportunities for students, Party Crashers brings their portable tracks to birthday parties and other private events.
