Becker softball team beats Hornets

The Becker Bulldog softball team took on the Cambridge Bluejackets last week losing 5-1.

The Bluejackets scored three runs in the first, third, and fifth. Kalli Josewski would go on to score off of a Kenley Nicolas groundout.

In the sixth, the Bluejackets scored two more runs to make the final score 5-1. Ady Petty had two hits during the game and Jaimee Cook struck out 12 players while not allowing any walks.

Vs. Hornets

The girls would go on to win against the Big Lake Hornets 4-2.

In the bottom of the second, the Bulldogs got on the board with a two-out rally. Katie Wipper walked, Grace Baldry was hit by a pitch, and Maddie Gardner drove in a run. Two more runs went to the Bulldogs in the third when Petty singled and Allie Duncombe walked to put two runners on. Then Cook and Wipper each drove in a run making the score 3-0.

Duncombe would score the last run for the Bulldogs in the fourth from a Bella Hunter double. Cook went all seven innings and all nine of the Bulldog batters reached the base during the game.

Vs. C-I

The Bulldogs then played Cambridge again, but this time had home field advantage. That did not seem to help them too much, however, as the score remained 0-0 until the top of the seventh when finally the Bluejackets would go on to score on a single.

The Bulldogs tried to make a comeback, but stranded  a runner on second base to end the game.

Cook had a dominating performance on the mound with 15 strikeouts, no walks, and only four hits. The only hits of the night for the Bulldogs were Petty and Lauren Peters.

Up Next

On Thurs., May 8, the softball and baseball programs are teaming up to host the annual Strikeout Cancer games played against Monticello. There will be a food truck and the teams will be raising money for a local family dealing with cancer. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come help support.
